4 movies that have animals as protagonists

If we remember the first animated films that have animals as protagonists, we cannot deny that they were part of many people’s childhood. Among these works that marked generations are titles known as Dumbo, Bambi, A Dama eo Vagabundo or Os 101 Dalmatians.

Anyway, in the last few decades movies with animals as protagonists have also been released. However, sometimes, movie specimens don’t always behave like their real-life counterparts.

However, there are also movies with animals that are not as common as the main characters. Next, we will present some works with non-human living beings as protagonists. Check out!

1. Mogli – The Wolf Boy (1967)

This animated film has as protagonists different animals, who take care of a little baby abandoned in the jungle, named Mogli. Among them are Baguera the black panther, Shere Khan the tiger, the funny bear Baloo or the manipulative python Kaa.

Black panther Baguera protects Mogli from an early age, taking him to a pack of wolves that raise him, until the arrival of the evil tiger, Shere Khan. Although in the movie Baguera it appears to be a diurnal animal, black panthers are eminently nocturnal.

The fur color of the panthers helps them go unnoticed at night. Furthermore, these cats do not attack humans, as well as tigers, bears or pythons.

Film licenses don’t stop there, as Kaa is an Indian python who wants Mowgli to be her appetizer. However, pythons are non-venomous constrictor snakes that feed on mammals, birds and reptiles, not humans.

On the other hand, the funny and sleepy bear Baloo couldn’t be missing from this movie. Baloo is a brown bear that eats honey and small insects, just like its real counterparts. In short, it’s a really fun movie that the whole family can enjoy together. The songs are extremely catchy and there is a second part, Mogli – O Menino Lobo 2.

2. Robin Hood (1973)

A minstrel begins by telling the story of 3 friends and their gang, who live in Sherwood Forest. They fight the abusive taxes demanded by the Sheriff of Nottingham on behalf of King John I of England.

Other protagonists are his companions: João Pequeno, a bear of great size and heart, as well as the affable Frei Tuck, a bald badger. Badgers are very sociable animals, who take care of each other, as the friar does to people.

More characters appear in the animated film, such as the maiden Marian, King Richard or the sheriff’s henchmen. The Robin Hood legend has spawned a wide variety of movies, the most recent of which was released in 2018.

3. Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007)

This cinematographic work tells the story of a composer, Dave, who meets 3 talking squirrels who sing. Dave’s producer sees a huge opportunity and decides to launch them into stardom.

These squirrels belong to the species Tamias striatus , native to North America and the only survivors of the subgenus. They are known in some places as striped squirrels, because of the interspersed black and cream stripes on their bodies.

Typically, squirrels are small, hardy mammals found on every continent. In the film, each of them has their own personality, the restless Alvin, the intelligent Simon and the cutest and most gluttonous: Theodore.

Although they love to eat junk food in the movie, the squirrels should actually only eat plant products, insects or worms. Also, these squirrels hibernate from fall to spring, so they could only play shows in the spring and summer months.

Taking care of a squirrel can be difficult.

4. Turbo (2013)

Turbo’s film tells the life of a snail that wants to compete in Formula 1 races. Yes, something that in reality would not be possible for this small terrestrial invertebrate. In the wild, snails are classified as one of the slowest animals in the world. This is understandable because they carry their house on their backs from one place to another.

Turbo lives in a snail colony with his brother, although most don’t believe he’ll make his dream come true. However, in the wild, snails are solitary animals, interacting only with others to feed or mate.
